Press Release: Pico Mountain opens for the 2024/25 season on December 13th

KILLINGTON, Vt. (December 10, 2024) – Vermont’s Pico Mountain will kick off the 2024/25 winter season at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, and operate Thursday-Monday all season long and daily during holiday weeks.

“We are thrilled to welcome back skiers and riders to Pico Mountain for what’s already shaping up to be a great season,” says Rich McCoy, director of operations at Pico Mountain. “Our new independent ownership is committed to continued investments and our recent snowmaking improvements mean more consistent conditions, all while consuming less energy overall. It’s really exciting.”

This summer, Pico Mountain nearly doubled its fleet of high-efficiency HKD snow guns. Guests will see the new equipment on 49er, Swinger, Ace of Clubs, and Upper and Lower Pike. Over the past 6 years, Pico Mountain has invested more than $6 million to improve snowmaking capacity and efficiency across the resort. This includes an upgraded pumphouse, complete with new, efficient variable speed pumps with a larger water capacity in the summer of 2023, revitalizing the snowmaking pond and adding snowmaking to A Slope with the help of the Pico Ski Education Foundation in 2022. Since summer 2019, more than 16,850 feet of new water supply pipeline was installed to supply water from Killington to Pico, in addition to over 9,000 feet of new and replacement snowmaking pipe at Pico.

In addition to snowmaking, Pico Mountain has improved its beginner terrain with a handle tow for 24/25 and plans to replace the Bonanza Double Chair with a Magic Carpet lift for the 25/26 season. This project will be completed in partnership with Vermont Adaptive. The terrain park offerings will also be expanded for this season.

The resort plans to run the Golden Express Quad, Summit Quad and Bonanza Double opening weekend. Uphill Travel will also open at this time. Tickets, rentals and lessons are available on opening day. The cafeteria will be open, and the Last Run Lounge will have full bar service and a limited food menu opening weekend. Full menu offerings along with new QR code dining service will begin on Friday, December 20. Be sure to check the conditions report for the most up-to-date information on lift and trail status.

Pico Mountain will be collecting donations for BROC so guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 15. Pico Mountain will match all donations to make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry this holiday season. Food donations will be accepted at the old ticketing office, on the left side while walking towards the mountain.
