Collision Prevention

Keeping Vermont’s slopes safe and enjoyable for everyone starts with being aware of your surroundings and making smart choices. Complementing the Responsibility Code, our safety partners—the Snow Angel Foundation and High Fives Foundation—encourage skiers and riders to follow three simple actions to protect themselves and others and #RideAnotherDay:

1. Be Ready

  • Always be prepared to slow down or avoid objects and other people.
  • Ski and ride in control, adapting to the conditions and staying aware of your surroundings.

2. Stay Alert

  • Keep an eye on what’s happening around you, especially the movements of other skiers and riders.
  • Stay focused and avoid distractions while on the slopes.

3. Plan Ahead

  • Slow down at blind spots and look uphill before merging onto trails.
  • Anticipate areas with high traffic or limited visibility, like trail intersections and rollers.
  • Give other skiers and riders plenty of room when passing—there’s enough space for everyone.
  • If you’re unfamiliar with a run, take it easy the first time down and note areas where extra caution is needed.

By practicing these three steps every run, you’ll help create a safer, more enjoyable experience for yourself and everyone on the mountain. Let’s work together to make skiing and snowboarding as safe as it is fun!
