Over 23 years before Stratton Mountain opened, busloads of Connecticut and New York skiers traveled to Brattleboro by the thousands, waiting to be whisked up the 1,100-foot rope tow at the Brattleboro Ski Hill, one of the first ski areas in Vermont to offer lift service.
"At the start of the season, Stratton generously loaned us two high-efficiency HKD snow guns to expand our snowmaking capacity," shared Vice President of the Board Todd Fahey in early December.
"The brand-new HKD snow guns are the type of equipment a small operation like ours can only dream of. We're incredibly grateful to Stratton for recognizing the important role community ski hills continue to play in keeping this sport accessible."
The Brattleboro Ski Hill is a 100% volunteer-run organization—from snowmaking and grooming to selling hot cocoa and loading the T-bar. The transformation of Living Memorial Park (where the hill is located) into a vibrant winter playground wouldn't be possible without the donors and partners who understand the importance of access to the outdoor community.
Thanks to its new partnership with Stratton, the Brattleboro Ski Hill was able to open for the season on Tuesday, December 31st, with Stratton also covering the cost of lift tickets for the first 50 skiers and riders.
"We're ecstatic to be able to provide snowmaking support for such an important community centerpiece in our backyard,” shared Craig Panarisi, Vice President of Mountain Operations at Stratton. “The Brattleboro Ski Hill is instrumental in growing the ski and ride community in Vermont and keeping those first days on the hill—and nights of riding after school—accessible to all ages. We're proud of the work their snowmaking team put in with Stratton's HKD equipment."
